Most years in Middle Tennessee, we only see an inch or two of snow and it’s gone by the afternoon. However, just a couple weeks ago, we were surprised with over 7″ of snow that in turn shut down most of Middle Tennessee (Nashville, Dickson, Franklin, Clarksville, etc.) and left many people stranded, without power, and unprepared. So I thought it might be a good idea to address Snowmageddon 2024 and ways to deal with the ever changing winter weather. Here are a few simple yet effective tips to ensure your abode remains a warm haven amidst the frosty charm.
1. Taming the Chill: Guarding Against Frozen Pipes
As temperatures dip, your pipes might be feeling the chill too. Prevent frozen pipe nightmares by insulating them with foam sleeves or wrapping them in heat tape. A gentle drip from faucets during frigid nights can also keep water flowing smoothly. Remember, a little TLC for your pipes goes a long way in avoiding icy surprises. Also, don’t forget to insulate your outdoor faucets with insulation covers! We bought these insulation covers off Amazon.
2. Dance of the Furnace: Nurturing Your HVAC System
Your trusty HVAC system works overtime during winter, so let’s pamper it a bit. Change those air filters regularly to keep the warmth flowing efficiently. A professional check-up before winter’s peak ensures your heating system is ready for the seasonal spotlight. I never knew HVAC maintenance was so important until we moved to Tennessee and our heater went out during a cold snap. To have someone come out and give our HVAC a tune-up in the spring and fall for $100/year, is definitely worth it for the peace of mind. I also highly recommend investing in a couple space heaters in case something does go wrong and you don’t have a back up heat source (like a fireplace), or the roads are too icy to drive to a hotel or a friend’s home to escape the cold. We bought a couple space heaters similar to this one!
3. Winter TLC: Simple Home Maintenance Rituals
Check for drafts around windows and doors, sealing any gaps with weather stripping. Ensure your fireplace is in top-notch condition for those cold evenings. And don’t forget to clear gutters of autumn leaves – a small act that prevents big issues down the snowy road.
By giving your home a bit of winter love, you can ensure a season of warmth and comfort. Stay cozy! ❄️🏠 #MiddleTNWinter #HomeMaintenanceMagic #NashvilleRealEstate
